Rollerblade Macroblade 80: A Good First Inline Skate, or a Step Up?

Written 24 October 2026 · by Cass · written with an AI assistant

Be clear on one thing first: none of the skaters and coaches in our compilation recommends the Rollerblade Macroblade 80 by name. It is on this site because beginners buy it in numbers. So instead of an endorsement, this page checks its published specs against what the coaches we compiled ask of a first inline skate. It meets every point the coaches give except full room to grow, and unlike the Zetrablade its frame is aluminium. Rollerblade sells it as the upgraded recreational skate.

Why it is on this site: what “trending” means here

The Macroblade 80 appeared in Amazon.com’s best-seller ranking for inline skates when we checked on 24 October 2026, well below the Zetrablade. That is a measure of what buyers choose, not of quality. It is why the page exists; it is not why you should buy it.

How we evaluated it

We have not skated the Rollerblade Macroblade 80 ourselves, and nobody tested it for this page. We took the criteria that the coaches and skaters in our buying-guide compilation give for a first inline skate, each with its source and date, and checked the published specs against them, one by one. Where a spec could not be confirmed, we say so below.

What people who skated it report

These are the reports we could find and read from people who say they actually skated it, with their limits. We did not use Amazon customer reviews, which Amazon does not allow sites to reproduce.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

It suits an adult who wants a first inline skate that will still feel solid after the first season, and who is happy to pay more than for the Zetrablade for a metal frame.

Look elsewhere if you already know you want big wheels for distance: see the step-by-step path on our first fitness and distance inline skates page. If you have not chosen between quad and inline yet, start with quad vs inline: which to buy first.

Sizing

Use Rollerblade’s size chart. The listing says a footboard sizer lets you make the fit tighter or roomier; the retailer Inline Warehouse advises adding 0.5 cm for wide feet or extra room (read 24 Oct 2026).

Questions

Is the Macroblade 80 good for beginners?

It meets the points the coaches in our compilation give for a first inline skate: a supportive cuff (Asha, Shulgan, Welch), four 80 mm wheels at 82A (Welch, Shulgan, Thisissoul) and a metal frame (Thisissoul). It only partly meets Welch's and Casper's wish for a frame that takes other wheels: Rollerblade says up to 84 mm. No pro skater we compiled recommends it by name.

Macroblade 80 or Zetrablade?

Both have four 80 mm 82A wheels and a supportive cuff. The Macroblade 80 has an aluminium frame and takes 84 mm wheels; the Zetrablade has a one-piece composite frame built for 80 mm.

Can I put bigger wheels on the Macroblade 80?

Rollerblade says it is upgradable to 84 mm wheels. It does not say it takes larger ones.
